The Three Cities - Half Day Tour - Malta Tour

Our Three Cities Tour refers to the fortified cities of Senglea, Vittoriosa and Cospicua. The fortifications which enclose the cities were built by the Knights of St. John and are called the Cottonera Lines. The tour will start in Senglea, after which we will visit Cospicua with Vittoriosa being the last leg of the half day tour.

The Three Cities - Half Day Tour, is offered by our travel tour agency - Malta Tours, in Malta Sightseeing Tours.

Senglea
Senglea is the smallest locality on the island of Malta, but at the same time it also has the highest population density on the islands. The city is now most well known for being home of the miraculous statue of Jesus Christ. The statue is situated in the church dedicated to the Nativity of the Madonna which was damaged during World War II but was rebuilt to retain its artistic heritage. The city is also know for offering some great harbor views across to Valletta.

Cospicua
In contrast with Senglea which is both the smallest city in Malta and amongst the Three Cities, Cospicua is the largest of the Three. While not as large as it was before The Second World War, Cospicua is still an important market center for the area and its older dockyard is being restored into a modern marina. Some of the city's attractions are the Firenzuola Fortifications and the Margherita Lines, the latter actually being surviving parts of the pre-World War II Cospicua. Probably the most interesting building is the Collegiate Church of the Immaculate Conception.

Vittoriosa
The city of Vittoriosa is actually called Birgu, it was called or renamed as Civitas Vittoriosa – Victorious Town – after the major part it played as a strategic fortification during the Turkish siege of 1565. Birgu or Vittoriosa was the first home of the Knights and this means that it is home to many architectural landmarks such as churches and palaces which are older than those located in nearby Valletta.
